Yesterday, October 2, 2013, Agents of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS), conducted a search at a residence on William Bobo Drive, Canton, GA. Agents arrested the resident, Joseph Poss. Poss was arrested on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of fully automatic weapons, and possession of weapons altered to an illegal length. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) also responded to the residence to take custody of three military pyrotechnic devices recovered by CMANS Agents. The GBI has a regional Explosives Ordinance Unit which responds to deal with explosive devices.
CMANS Agents seized a total of 46 weapons. At least eight of these were believed to be fully automatic assault weapons. Agents of the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been consulted to determine if other charges may be brought in the investigation.
Agents had gone to the Poss home in response to an anonymous tip received by CMANS. In searching for drugs agents uncovered the cash of weapons, many of which were clearly altered illegally. Agents located other weapons which had been cut down to a shorter, illegal barrel length.
Poss was turned over to the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad is a joint task force working in Cherokee County to investigate drug related violations. Participating agencies include the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the Cherokee County BOE Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol.
