FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) announces the arrest of an individual who had delivered almost a quarter pound of methamphetamine to northeastern Cherokee County.

Fernando Pastrana-Velasquez, 25 YOA of Duluth, Georgia, was arrested on August 28, 2010, and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine.

Citizen tips to CMANS Agents resulted in Agents conducting a surveillance operation in Freehome community, in an attempt to locate a suspicious man who had been seen in the area.  Agents observed the truck operated by Mr. Velasquez leaving a residence where the homeowner had a history of drug violations.  Agents determined that Mr. Velasquez was wanted on warrants from Norcross, Georgia.  With the assistance of SFC Greg Fowler, of the Georgia State Patrol, the Agents were able to detain Mr. Velasquez and discovered about a quarter pound of methamphetamine that Mr. Velasquez had tried to conceal.  Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to assist CMANS Agents in recovery of the drug evidence found at the scene.
