On 5/18/2018 Dustin James Funk was arrested at Northside Cherokee Hospital, in Canton, after Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) Agents learned that Funk had used a false name to receive treatment and pain medication prescriptions at the Northside Cherokee Emergency Room. Funk was initially arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Bartow County.
The CMANS investigation developed that Funk had visited Northside Cherokee Hospital on 29 different occasions since July of 2017. On each of those occasions, Funk utilized a different alias in order to obtain drugs such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, and Tramadol. These drugs were filled at 8 different pharmacies in Cherokee County. Northside Cherokee Hospital is cooperating with CMANS Agents.
Agents have charged Funk with several violations, including Possession of Hydrocodone, Possession of Tramadol and Possession of Oxycodone, Forgery in the First Degree and Obtaining Controlled Substances by Fraud. In all Funk will face 79 felony charges. The CMANS investigation has developed that Funk committed additional offenses in other counties throughout the North Metro area. The investigation is still on-going, and CMANS Agents will be partnering with investigators from the around the State.
Funk is about 33 YOA and has a Carrolton address. Funk is currently in the Bartow County Jail.
CMANS Agents work closely with medical professionals to identify individuals who are abusing the system to seek drugs needed by people with serious medical needs. Agents from the CMANS Heroin/Opioid Team were instrumental in this complex and difficult investigation..
The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad is a joint task force working in Cherokee County to investigate drug-related violations. Participating agencies include the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, and the Georgia State Patrol.
